Fading Memories

It took one letter,

To destroy everything.

I still cry about him,

He was my first love

He was the one who made,

Me realize how crazy I

Could be while in love,

I had everything in him.

It was more than hate to love,

So beautiful.

I wrote letters,

I barely remember how many.

You may have called me crazy,

But that was my love language

And you can't blame it.

For the first time I cried,

It would have lasted but

Hubris was what we held onto.

I don't regret things,

But I regret the day

With watery eyes you walked away.

I stood hoping you would turn back,

Just so I could be sure it was a joke,

But you didn't.

That's when I realized how serious it was

I was sad you didn't believe me,

But I came to terms.

Then when you walked through the door again,

I was happy

But I wasn't about to let you in.

I held onto pride

And this time it took all of me,

I waited but you didn't come back.

I wonder whether I'm stupid to wait,

Till now, but maybe we would have been.

If we both listened and understood

Each other better than we did.

That killed us both,

How sad.
